JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox News is looking for a strong journalist who understands sourcing, fact checking, balancing and vetting editorial information.  As the Nightside Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the DC Bureau and its’ editorial process in the evening hours. You will work with reporters and DC show producers to make sure editorial policies set up by the D.C. Bureau Chief and Managing Editor are followed.  You will take a handover from the Bureau Chief, Assignment Manager and other dayside bureau managers and will supervise the night side team, to react to breaking news, plan next day coverage, run crews, oversee desk network pools, and adapt to accommodate prime time show needs.  You will make sure the bureau is set up for the next day’s coverage, updating pitches and changing assignments as news develops. 

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the nightside DC Bureau team, including communicating and guiding team members to reach bureau and network objectives
  • Oversee the workflow of content coming out of the D.C. Bureau including; evaluating editorial information from reporters and guiding personnel on what is distributed network wide; collaborating with reporters working on the same story and coming up with a cohesive narrative of facts to be distributed to all Fox platforms; and working with reporters and producers to follow editorial policies set up by the D.C. Bureau Chief and Managing Editor
  • Review reporter television scripts and Foxnews.com stories ensuring that stories are balanced, context is provided and the material meets our editorial standards. Ask question and work with reporters to provide additional information as needed
  • Work with show staff to ensure editorial guidelines are met
  • Reach out to bureau management team to flag breaking news, editorial concerns or overall bureau or network issues on nightside hours
  • Oversee assignment desk personnel in tracking, confirming and reacting to breaking news and prime time show needs
  • Carry out responsibilities and coverage plans that have been put in place by other managers
  • Develop and adapt next day coverage plans
  • Coordinates schedules and staffing for the Assignment Desk operation, including the Satellite Desk, Planning, and Editorial and Control Room Coordinators.
  • Works in collaboration with other managers on coverage projects and bureau initiatives

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience, including leading or managing in a broadcast, print or digital work environment

  • Exceptional editorial judgment and intricate knowledge of national and international politics

  • Strong contacts and knowledge of the White House, Capitol Hill, and federal agencies

  • Knowledge and ability to stay current on transmission technology, including Links, Live U, cell, Microwave and Satellite

  • Knowledge of network pool operations at the desk level with an emphasis on understanding the unilateral benefit

  • A self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently as well as on a team

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment while multitasking and prioritizing on a daily basis; especially in breaking news situations

  • Strong logistical, communication, hiring, leadership, and mentoring skills

  • Availability to answer questions on coverage and staffing at all hours.

  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends on occasion based on bureau and breaking news needs
